Yongin Anıtı konuşması

Naci Sarıbaş 05.10.2011
On the occasion of the 61th anniversary of the Turkish Brigade in the Korean War, I duly recognize and honor the gallant soldiers who fought to secure freedom and democracy on the Korean Peninsula. 19th of October is the day that Turkish soldiers landed in Korea and this place where the Gyeomyangjangni battle has taken place marks the turning point of the war.

These dedicated men, under the banner of the U.N., fought to secure the blessing of freedom and democracy on the Korean Peninsula.

Turkey, acting in solidarity with the international community, decided without hesitation to send troops in support of the friendly Korean people to defend their independence and freedom.

We knew what it would mean to be under occupation. Only three decades before the Korean War, we had to fought our own war of independence.

Turkey dispatched around 15,000 soldiers. Ones who lost their lives is nearly 1000, many others were injured, taken as prisoners, and missing in action. I hope and wish that their bravery and selfless sacrifices will not be forgotten.

Today we remember and honor the soldiers who fought and the extraordinary sacrifices that they and their families mad efor the cause of peace. They deserve our unending repect and gratitude.
